HMRC confirmed in late January that Self Assessment customers who could not file their tax return by the January 31 deadline would not receive a late filing penalty if they filed online by February 28. Yesterday, they extended their support further by announcing Self Assessment taxpayers will not be charged the five percent late payment penalty if they pay their tax or set up a payment plan by April 1 2021.
